Cottage Food Laws - MT
Cottage food laws are state-regulated laws that allow home businesses to make not potentially hazardous foods, such as baked goods, in a home kitchen. In Montana, created foods must be sold directly to the consumer by the producer. Home bakeries, such as Especially Made, have registered with the state of Montana’s DPHHS. This registration requires bakeries to submit recipes, processing, packaging, labeling, and cleaning procedures to the state. Each product created in a cottage-food-certified bakery is clearly labeled with ingredients, food safety warnings, bakery location, and net weight/quantity. Goods made in cottage food kitchens are not subject to retail food establishment regulations and inspections.
